Travel from UK

Fly / Rent Car

There are several options available, with regular flights from most UK and European cities to Geneva.  British Airways, Easyjet and Flybe are the most popular carriers. We recommend Easyjet for some amazing fares and plenty of choice of flights. Tip; Book as far in advance as possible for the best fares.

Car rental is readily available from either the French side or the Swiss side of the airport (Yes the airport really does straddle the border !) It is best to pre-book from the UK. After many arguments with various companies as to what "All Inclusive" means we now solely recommend Rhino Car Hire. Rhino are genuinely "All Inclusive" and that means no extra charge for the compulsory Winterisation Pack. We recommend to rent from the Swiss side, it is more convenient, in winter all cars will have snow tyres and the cars should all have a Swiss motorway permit on them. What's more, as well as being great value Rhino support the International Rhino Foundation (IRF), please take a look through the link below at the valuable work they do to help these great animals.

Chalet les Loups is approximately 1hr 20mins from the airport.

Drive

The ferry crossing from Dover to Calais takes about 1 1/2 hours, whilst Dover to Dunkirk takes about 2 hours. The main operator on the Dover/Calais route is P&O Ferries. The cheaper alternative is the slightly longer Dunkirk route with Norfolkline. Whilst Norfolkline are principally a freight operator we find that their service and prices are excellent, although they have considerably fewer crossings.

Eurotunnel is quicker, less susceptible to weather and industrial action but more expensive....and you have to sit in the car for the duration. This is not my preferred option when I know I'm going to be sitting there for the next 8hrs+ however we are all different !

The journey through France is relatively easy and it is quite possible to do in one shot just stopping for fuel on the way. The roads are a joy after the busy UK roads as long as you avoid peak times on peak days. The journey should take about 8hrs 30mins. Keep an eye out for mobile speed cameras if you would like to do it in less and always be sure to have some Euros just in case you are asked to help with the French deficit !!!
