- Some good snow over the weekend, more on the
way !
Fingers
crossed for a great season. Despite last season
being generally poor throughout the Alps, Chatel
benefitted enormously from it's continued huge
investment in snow making facilities. A new
high-altitude reservoir has been built, capable
of supplying the snowmaker networks, which will
eventually produce almost 3,200 m3 of snow per
hour. An additional 32 snowmakers have been
installed over the Summer on the Rennes and Blattins pistes,
bringing
the total in Chatel to over 200.
The snow is produced through a
purely mechanical process that involves sending
pressurised water to a network of snowmakers
(commonly known as «snow cannons») distributed
around the ski area. No chemicals are used in
the artificial snow production cycle; the snow
consists only of water and cold air.
