News for the 2011/12 Winter Season

5th December 2011 - Some good snow over the weekend, more on the way !

Fingers crossed for a great season. Despite last season being generally poor throughout the Alps, Chatel benefitted enormously from it's continued huge investment in snow making facilities. A new high-altitude reservoir has been built, capable of supplying the snowmaker networks, which will eventually produce almost 3,200 m3 of snow per hour. An additional 32 snowmakers have been installed over the Summer on the Rennes and Blattins pistes, bringing the total in Chatel to over 200.

The snow is produced through a purely mechanical process that involves sending pressurised water to a network of snowmakers (commonly known as «snow cannons») distributed around the ski area. No chemicals are used in the artificial snow production cycle; the snow consists only of water and cold air.

New Rochassons Lift

This is the new version of the Rochassons chairlift, a six-seater detachable chairlift capable of carrying 3,000 skiers an hour to offer even more comfort, safety and speed. And more skiing!

For more comfort and more security this new chairlift is equiped with the "safety bar". Once the skier sits on the chair this one is going down. When user press on the bar or on the tread plate the system is locked. At the arrival the guard bar opens automatically.

This new lift in the Plaine Dranse sector replaces the old 2-seater chairlift
